We Want Your Help

The insurance industry is buried under decades of legacy. Our team is rethinking it all, using technology and data to make it quicker, more accurate, and less of an interruption in our customers lives.

Open Positions

Copywriter / Wordsmith / Content Strategist

Location: Anywhere / Remote

Type: Contract to hire

The Role

Can you easily explain complicated ideas? Can you engage others on topics they thought they didn’t need to understand? Kin is looking for a copywriter to join our team and help make insurance policies clear and concise. Think of the best teacher you ever had. You couldn’t wait for their next lesson, were captivated by everything they taught, and walked out of the room each day with an understanding of the most complex subjects. You will be that to our customers.

Responsibilities

In the short term, you will be responsible for working with the product team in the creation of new content for our marketing website. Additional long term responsibilites will include adding context and explanation through the quoting and binding processes, marketing outreach (social, direct mail, email), and working to develop a communication framework that accurately reflects our brand principles through words. You will also be encouraged to develop new strategy for reaching out to new customers and current customers alike.

About You

The ideal fit for this role is someone that can work backwards from a goal and make a plan to get there. You should be comfortable asking questions and learning from the team around you. You should be willing to teach others on the team what you are an expert in. You are serious, but don’t take yourself seriously. You know when something is better, even when it’s not the best. Experience with direct to consumer and multi-touchpoint communication is a plus, as is experience with an early stage company, though neither are necessary.

Customer Service Representative

Location: Chicago

Type: Full-Time

The Role

We are an insurance technology company looking for customer service reps who are great with people and are interested in learning about insurance. At Kin we are rethinking the homeowners insurance industry. We are building tools to make the process of buying insurance convenient and hassle-free. As part of the Kin team you will be working directly with our customers to answer policy questions and educate them on the different options available to them. You’ll be working alongside proven technology and insurance innovators to help change the way homeowner’s insurance is manufactured and sold.

Responsibilities

Our website generates inbound customer interest. Your main responsibility will be answering those customers' questions and helping them get the right insurance product for their needs. You will also help our existing customers with their questions and issues. Since you are not a licensed insurance agent, part of your job will be directing our clients to your licensed insurance agent coworkers when they need help that requires a licensed agent. We will assist you in getting your insurance license, at which point you will get a promotion and an increase in responsibility.

About You

You’re great with people: personable and persuasive. Your contact with customers will be via email, chat and phone. You’re good with computers: you aren’t a programmer but you know your way around the web, google docs, etc.

UI Engineer / Front End Developer

Location: Chicago

Type: Full-Time

The Role

Kin is using technology to simplify and clarify insurance policies and are looking for a front-end focused engineer that can help build the interfaces that our customers will use. Our tools are device agnostic and our design aims to be forward thinking. If you’ve been waiting for a chance to think outside the Bootstrap, this role is for you.

Responsibilities

You will be writing the HTML, CSS, and Javascript that renders our marketing and customers websites. Across the company, we’re using a mix of Ruby/Rails, the Craft CMS, Haml, Slim, Sass, and Coffeescript. Your code should be performant and render the intent of the original design, while making smart compromises when necessary. Your code should be progressively enhanced and the needs of the customer should drive your coding decisions. You may also be asked to work on marketing efforts outside of the main website(s), such as responsive email templates, a front-end style guide, Facebook applications, and one-off testing and prototype interfaces.

About You

The most important characteristic you exhibit is a passion for learning. The front-end landscape changes quickly, from tooling to techniques, and it is important that you keep up. You are excited about using new tools, but are pragmatic in choosing to do so. You can explain why “pixel-perfect” is an antiquated concept. You know when something is better, even when it’s not the best. You have experience working with or building front-end styleguides and performance testing. You should be comfortable asking questions and learning from the team around you. You should be willing to teach others on the team what you are an expert in. Experience with a quick moving startup and experience writing or designing is a plus.
